Fieldtrips constitute an integral component of the educational activities of the Geotechnical Department and include day-long visits to construction sites of geotechnical interest (e.g., under-construction stations for the extensions of the Athens Metro) as well as extended field trips in Greece or abroad (e.g., France, Italy, Japan). These extended fieldtrips are parts of the undergraduate courses Engineering Geology (6th semester) and Soil Dynamics (9th semester) and the Interdepartmental Program of Postgraduate Studies “Design and Construction of Underground Structures”. The 2003-2004 postgraduate class visited under construction tunnels in Greece, while the 2004-2005 class visited under construction tunnels in the Alps and other civil engineering works. |
